Following a Majestic Creature

Ryan sitting in class found himself drawing little hearts and other various shapes all over his notebook while the instructor gave their same boring, monotonous lesson that he had already heard so many times. It was a review day, and he was helping everyone get ready for the test on Monday. Ryan was the type who never really had to study to get a decent grade on the test, so he didn't much care, and allowed himself to zone out.

He remembered Two days ago when that senior named Fox saved him from the bullies from his gym class. A heroic figure, and a mysterious personality. Ryan was intrigued by this person and wondered if he could find out more about him. Ryan hoped this person would be his first real friend since he moved here.

How would he find out more about him though? They have different class schedules, and Ryan had no idea where to look to find him. Surely he'd recognize Fox if he saw him, but there were nearly two thousand other students on campus. The chances of just running into Fox by pure luck and chance was implausible. Not only that, but even if he did, he'd have to explain himself and why he was there. The seniors mostly stayed located in the senior area. The was little reason for anyone else to go there. Plus what would Ryan say? He had no idea of good ice breaking, conversation starting statements, he'd proven that one before.

“Fox? Yeah he skips a lot of classes, and likes to hang around the outside of the school during lunch. I think you two have the same lunch period, so you may be able to catch him then.” Spoke a student Ryan asked for information about Fox.

“What's he like...?” Ryan questioned.

The other kid shrugged, “no one really knows. He doesn't talk to many people.”

Ryan nodded and took his leave. Lunch was just next period, so he could make an attempt to speak with Fox then. He wanted to thank him for his help yesterday, and perhaps learn more about his mystery savior.

Lunch came and with it Ryan had butterflies in his stomach. He wasn't sure how Fox would respond to him going to speak with him, or how he'd take to Ryan. His usual nervousness  combined with this new feeling of anxiousness was overwhelming to him, and if left unchecked would put him in a deep stupor.

Not able to eat anything out of his nervousness, Ryan took no food and simply headed outside when the teachers weren't guarding the door. It only took a small amount of effort for him to slip by them due to his height, and insignificance. He was always unnoticeable, the problem was he was so clumsy he'd mostly knock something over making his location known to all around him. Sometimes he'd knock several things over in succession. Due to this fact, Ryan didn't go to museums too much for fear of the damage he'd cause. He was like a bull in a china shop really.

To Ryan's luck, Fox didn't skip school today, and as promised was standing outside. He was sitting at a picnic table all by himself.

The wind played with his hair delicately, and his cloths seemed to sway only a slight bit. He wearing a clean black T-shirt, and black faded jeans. These ones had sort of a half skirt that was torn up hanging from their left side. It only covered his read, and down to his knee on his left leg, leaving his right leg to be covered only by the jeans. On the right side of his unique pants was a set of two silver chains that hung gently. They looked rather expensive, and not the type of cloths you buy in a normal store. Either custom made, or bought from one of those Gothic stores such as Hot Topic.

On his right wrist he had a set of three gold bangle bracelets, clearly designed for males as they had a more masculine design upon them. He either wasn't wearing them last time they met, or they were hidden under his hooded sweatshirt, which he didn't wear today.

With his arms exposed, it was more apparent that he had some muscle on his body. Not an excessive amount, but just enough to tell it was there. He was pretty strong, that was certain.

“Excuse me...” Ryan interjected.

The taller older boy pivoted on the bench and set his right foot upon it. It caused his leg to arch up. He answered with a head tilt in Ryan's direction and a “Hm?”

“Hey, you're that kid from yesterday... Ryan was it?” Asked Fox with a smile.

Ryan nodded.

“It's nice to see you again. I hope those guys don't give you anymore trouble.” He told Ryan.

Ryan nodded again, “thank you, and no they haven't bothered me.”

Fox let his smile shine, “that's good then.”

There was a short silence. Neither of them spoke a word, or moved an inch. It was as if they were waiting for the other to make a move. Fox of course made the move they both were waiting for.

“Is there something you needed?” He questioned.

Ryan perked up, “oh, I wanted to thank you for helping me out yesterday. I was hoping you'd accept this token of my appreciation.”

Ryan offered a small bag of sweet he had baked later that night for this specific purpose. It was his hope that Fox would take them and enjoy them. He stayed up late baking them.

Fox took a few steps forward and took the bag from Ryan softly. He gazed at its contents gently, and he looked back at Ryan. He set the bag on the picnic table bench and placed his hand on the set of golden bangles on his wrist. Pulling forward he removed one and took Ryan's hand politely. Ryan was in awe and shock at the same time.

Carefully, Fox slipped the bangle onto Ryan's right hand. Ryan didn't say a word, he only looked up at Fox curiously.

“Now everyone will know you're under my protection little one.” Said Fox.

Ryan gazed down at the bangle, and then back up to Fox. The only words he could force out was a soft, “thank you...”

“Don't mention it.” Fox spoke back to Ryan.

Ryan felt like Fox was his older brother in a sense. He was strong, valiant, noble, and loyal to the cause of protecting Ryan. Ryan had never had an actual older brother. The only sibling he had ever had or known was his loving sister Angelina. Perhaps having Fox around would be like having another Angelina.

“Just be careful, Ryan. There's a lot of bad people out there.” Fox said as he pet the top of Ryan's head.

“Yes... Of course...” Ryan replied quietly.

With that, Fox left the scene, and headed back inside the school. Ryan was left with a feeling of awe, and gratitude as he gazed at the bangle resting on his wrist. He noticed now, the word “Fox,” was engraved into its side.
